Who We Are

In the heart of the beautiful Texas Hill Country in Medina, Ashley Ranch is an actual working ranch, operating in this location since 1965. I (Robert) am a full-time rancher and fourth generation in the Ashley family to raise cattle, pig, sheep and goats in Bandera county. My wife Neita is an elementary school teacher, and we are proud that our three sons, Seth, Ethan and Austin are growing up to be the fifth generation of Ashley ranchers!

Our Doxie Story

Our adventure in raising registered dachshund puppies grew out of our love for one mini doxie, named Tuffy, who was given as a pet to our two younger boys, Seth and Ethan. Tuffy followed Seth and Ethan everywhere they went, all over the ranch. She even learned to herd sheep — which was a big help!

Tuffy

Tuffy eagerly loaded up with us on the truck every morning and worked her heart out through 100-degree days in August and freezing winter days when lambs were being born. She truly was a ranch hand!

One summer, when she, Seth and Ethan were out walking, they came alongside a stack of firewood. Suddenly, Tuffy let out a loud yelp — she had been bitten by a rattlesnake hiding in the stack. Had Seth or Ethan been any closer, one of them might have been the recipient of the poisonous bite. Living up to her name, Tuffy had taken one for the team! And although her life was touch-and-go over the next few days, she fully recovered and was soon back to her playful, hard-working self.

Tuffy was such a great helper and companion that we decided our family would always have a dachshund in our lives. And now, we have the privilege of breeding these wonderful dogs and sharing the joy of having a doxie with people like you!

Doxie Fun Fact

The dachshund was developed in Germany more than 300 years ago to hunt badgers. (Dachs means “badger” in German. Hund means “dog.”)
